BRUNSWICK — Joan Marlowe Wood, of Brunswick, Maine, passed away on Jan. 31, 2015, surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with respiratory illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin C. Wood for 48 years, who passed away from Alzheimer’s disease in 2003.

She is survived by her four children, Brian C. of Knoxville, Tenn.; Gregg T. and his wife Karen Hefler of Wiscasset, Maine; Lauren J. Huffman of West Linn, Ore.; and Scott M. and his wife Katie of Marysville, Wash.; along with her eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Hilary Wood, Connor and Parker Huffman, Daren Wood, Grant Hefler, Cory Davis and Hannah Wood. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Kucia, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Cheryl Ostrowski.

Joan was born in Malone, N.Y., on June 17, 1934, and a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford, Conn. She was a devoted wife and mother. Joan and Ed raised their children in New England, settling in Brunswick. They enjoyed retirement traveling extensively, visiting family and friends, and spending time on the golf course in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Joan returned to Brunswick in 2006, a community she cherished. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her dear friends, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and all that the state of Maine has to offer — she loved to sit by the ocean. She also liked to read, knit, and do puzzles. She was a wonderful woman with a generous spirit, adored by her children and grandchildren. She was supportive, kind, resilient, funny and the most devoted caregiver to Ed during his illness. She will be deeply missed.
