Sanford police say a man was stabbed Sunday night during fight outside a Main Street convenience store.

Sgt. Craig Anderson said officers were called to the Cumberland Farms store at 982 Main St. around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a robbery in progress.

Anderson said the incident did not turn out to be a robbery, but a fight over what he described as “drug money” involving four men and a woman.

One of the men pulled a knife during the altercation. He sustained a cut to his thumb – police are not sure how the cut was inflicted – and was transported by ambulance to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford.

Anderson said all the people involved in the dispute were located by police, but no one has been charged.
