CAMDEN (AP) — The U.S. National Toboggan Championships are reaching their conclusion at the Camden Snow Bowl in this coastal Maine town.
The 25th annual event invites participants to ride traditional wooden toboggans down a 400-foot chute that dates to the 1930s at speeds that top 40 mph. Organizers say 425 teams from all over the U.S. and Canada are participating.
The contest has competitions for two-, three- and four-person teams. Most of the first and second runs took place Saturday and Sunday’s action begins with second runs for the four-person teams.
Final “World Championship” runs are slated for noon on Sunday. Award ceremonies will take place at 3 p.m., capping the three-day event.
Last year’s winners were all from Maine. Their team names were Two Wingnuts, Absolute Zeros and Instigator.
