A portion of Route 1 southbound from Congress Avenue in Bath to the New Meadows exit in West Bath was closed for about an hour mid-day Friday following a two-vehicle crash which blocked the roadway.
The crash was reported at 11:17 p.m. Cpl. Dale Hamilton of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating the crash and was assisted at the scene by Bath police and fire departments and West Bath Fire Department.
Southbound traffic was redirected down State Road and back onto Route 1 at the West Bath on ramp. The road reopened around 12:25 p.m., said Chief Deputy Brett Strout with the sheriff ’s department.
Strout said Jessica Harris, 21, of Manchester was driving a 2006 Volvo sedan south on Route 1 and stopped to make a left-hand turn onto the crossover nearest the New Meadows exit in West Bath. She was rear ended by a 2005 Ford pickup truck hauling a utility trailer that was driven by Robert Scammon, 56, of Durham.
Strout said Harris was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening. As of 2 p.m. she was still in the emergency department. Strout said Harris was headed for Bath Iron Works and had missed her exit.
The Volvo was totaled and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
