BIDDEFORD — The University of New England claimed a spot in U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 rankings for Best Online Graduate Education Programs.

UNE placed 100th out of 250 public and private colleges and universities listed in the report. UNE is one of only 25 private universities appearing in the top 100, and is one of just two Maine institutions included in the ranking. (USM placed 157th.)

The rankings were based on accreditation, admissions selectivity, and academic and career support services offered to students.

This honor is the latest in a series of accolades earned by UNE, including being named one of “America’s Top Colleges” by Forbes magazine, being named one of the “Best Universities in the North” that offer a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs by U.S. News & World Report, and being ranked in the top 15 percent for return on investment among U.S. public and private higher education institutions by Payscale.com.

“UNE’s strategy of taking our excellent programs beyond the borders of Maine is being recognized nationally and internationally,” said President Danielle Ripich, commenting on this new ranking. “I am very proud of the faculty, administrators and students who have made our online education program a success.”

According to Martha Wilson, Ph.D., who is the dean of the UNE Online College of Graduate & Professional Studies and the associate provost for Online Worldwide Learning, “UNE’s student-centered approach to online education allows us to continue to thrive in this competitive market. We are proud to receive this acknowledgement from U.S. News & World Report for our online graduate education programs. This recognition speaks to the quality of our programs, our expert faculty, and our overall dedication to the development of future educational leaders.”
