AUGUSTA (AP) — Republican Gov. Paul LePage and Maine lawmakers are celebrating a $200,000 grant that’s funding a new educational program for some Augusta high school students.
LePage joined students and area legislators to announce the grant from the AT&T Foundation for the Jobs for Maine Graduates Program at Cony High School in Augusta on Tuesday. The program, which officials expect to serve about 50 Cony students, provides participants with career training and other opportunities to help them learn how to succeed in the job market.
The governor said the program has been so successful throughout Maine because it teaches students the life skills they need to become self-reliant when they leave school.
There around roughly 80 Jobs for Maine Graduates programs throughout the state serving about 5,000 students.
