GORHAM — The Little East Conference announced on Monday that University of Southern Maine junior Nicole Kirk was selected as the women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8th.
Competing at the annual Maine State Indoor Championships, Kirk was a double winner, taking titles in the 200- and 400-meter events. She won the 400-meters with a time of 59.45 seconds, while completing the 200-meters in 26.31 seconds.
In addition, she ran the opening leg for the Huskies’, winning the 4 x 200-meter relay along with Brunswick’s Liz O’Neal, as well as Deonna DaSilva and Cailley Ledue, for a 1:48.72 finish. Kirk also posted the fastest time in the 60-meter dash trials, finishing in 8.01 seconds.
The weekly honor is the first of the 2014-15 season for Kirk, and the seventh of her indoor career. Kirk was named the LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week five times during the 2012-13 season, and the Track Athlete of the Week on one occasion last season.
