WEST BATH
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department responded to two vehicle crashes on Route 1 northbound in West Bath Monday.
The first was reported at 9:17 a.m. Chief Deputy Brett Strout said Karen Cummings, 42, of Phippsburg was driving a 1994 Jeep north on Route 1 when the jeep skidded out of control and struck the guardrail, causing it to roll several times. The Jeep then rolled back into the travel lane of Route 1 and into the path of a 2012 Freightliner driven by Rodman Lewis, 50, of Goffstown, New Hampshire.
The truck hit the Jeep. Bath Rescue transported Cummings to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. A hospital spokesperson said Tuesday that Cummings has been released.
A second crash was reported at 11:18 p.m. Strout said Deo Bak, 46, of Lewiston was driving a 2004 Buick north on Route 1 and lost control of his vehicle while using his brakes. The Buick struck the guardrails and ended up in the travel lane. Nathan Wallace, 46, of Harpswell was driving a 2003 Ford and Strout said started down the hill to see a car in the lane with no lights on. He tried to avoid it but struck the Buick on the drivers side, totaling it.
Bak was transported to Mid Coast Hospital and has since been released.
