BRUNSWICK — Esther M. Simmons, 96, a longtime resident of 12 Stone St., died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth.

She was born in Edgecomb on Oct. 26, 1918, the daughter of Emory Nelson and Susie May Pitcher Payne. She attended Whitefield schools, and married Mulford F. Simmons in Gardiner on June 27, 1936. Mr. Simmons died on Oct. 14, 1990.

She was a member of Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, the Relief Society, a councilor and president of the Relief Society, Sunday School teacher and a visiting teacher for over 22 years.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, dance and writing poetry.

Mrs. Simmons had her own business for 20 years and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother Maxwell Payne and three sisters, Gladys Potter, Mildred Russell and Eva Ellen Kellett.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Giveen of Brunswick, a son Mulford F. (Skip) Simmons Jr. of West Bath and a brother Nelson E. Payne of Damariscotta, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 16 great-greatgrandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:30 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Varney Cemetery in Brunswick in the spring. In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Simmons’ memory to a children’s medical facility of your choice.
