BIDDEFORD — Roland C. Ferguson Jr., 83, of Biddeford, passed away Saturday morning on Feb. 14, 2015, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

He was born in Biddeford on May 19, 1931, the son of Roland Clyde Ferguson Sr. and Kathryn (Day) Ferguson.

Roland attended Biddeford schools and high school and graduated from Rindge Technical School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Maine, and the University of New Hampshire and had an engineering course at Georgia Tech.

On Jan. 2, 1951, he married Carolyn Esther Stevens at St. Mary’s Church.

He served his country in the United States Army Artillery Division on the front line during the Korean Conflict for several years.

Roland was employed by Saco Lowell Shops for a short time and later started with Hussey (Manufacturing) Seating Company. He held several positions in the company, from shop laborer to product design, sales, installation service, then R&D manager to chief engineer. After 48 years of service, he retired in 1999 and became a product consultant. He traveled throughout the United States and many other countries for the company.

He was vice president and umpire of the West Little League, scout master for hundreds of boy scouts of Troop 305 and president of the Biddeford Alumni Field Association. He was also president of Bunganut Pond Association, on the Board of Directors of Cathedral Ledge Condominium Association, Inc. and a member of Biddeford’s American Legion Post 26.

His enjoyed RV travel, overseas travel, boat cruises and engineering work. He also like to hunt, swim, water ski, spend summers at Bunganut Lake and do snowblowing in the winter. He was called “Mr. Fixit” in the Army, at Hussey’s and at home. Most of all, Roland loved being with his family and helping people.

He was preceded in death by: his father; mother; and one infant daughter, Carolinda.

He is survived by: his long and supportive wife, Carolyn, of 64 years; three sons, Roland C. III and his wife Catherine of Portland, James A. and his wife Vicket of Turkey, and Mark S. and his wife Linda of Saco; one daughter, Kathryn B. Martin and her husband Timothy of Cape Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Kevin, Lori, Tyler and James Ferguson; step-grandson, Nicholas Martin; one sister, Martha Mental of Gardiner; and three nieces.

A celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at 15 Thatcher St. in Saco.
