Winter Birding Talk, 7 p.m. March 17, Wells

York County Audubon is hosting a talk at the Wells Reserve about birding in Japan. Japan has several claims to fame as a travel destination, but few think of the country as a wildlife destination in winter. Birder Marie Jordan shares highlights from her trip there. Striped Bass Hearing, 6 p.m. March 9, Wiscasset

The Department of Marine Resources will hold two public hearings on the proposed striped bass regulation the second week of March. The first public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. March 9, at the Lincoln County Communications Center at 34 Bath Road in Wiscasset. The second will be held at 6 p.m. March 11, at Cabela’s at 100 Cabela Boulevard in Scarborough. To learn more about the proposed new striped bass bag limit, go to 1.usa.gov/17sloW3.

Youth Field Day, 8 a.m. March 1, Phippsburg

The Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association hosts its winter youth field day to teach youth about Nordic skiing, dog-sled racing, winter tracking and other winter sports. Participants also will learn winter survival skills. Equipment is available, or children may bring their own. The field day runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The sportsmen’s club is located on Route 209.
