BRUNSWICK — George F. Couture, 93, of Bowdoin, passed away peacefully at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, following a short illness. He was born in Bowdoin on Oct. 21, 1921, a son of the late Alcide and Caroline (Pinard) Couture.

He grew up in the Bowdoin area and attended local schools there. At a young age, George started to work on the family farm. He eventually went on to work for Pejepscot Paper as a core cutter for over 40 years until he retired. Even in retirement, he worked many hours on the family farm.

He will always be remembered for his love of gardening, hunting, especially rabbit and deer, cutting firewood and avidly watching the Red Sox and boxing.

He is survived by his children: George “Mauri” Couture and his wife Linda of Bowdoin, Diane Pulk and her husband Gene of Topsham, Greg Couture and his wife Candy of Bowdoin, Mark Couture and his wife Lisa of Bowdoin, and Glen Couture and his wife Nicole of Bowdoin. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Joanne in 2012, a daughter Carolyn, three brothers, Dominique, Roland and Maurice, a sister Adrinne and a granddaughter Denise.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of the word service that will be celebrated at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lisbon Falls.
