BRUNSWICK

Great State of Maine Air Show officials learned Monday that the U.S. Air Force will be sending an F-22 Raptor to perform demonstrations at the 2015 air show.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels earlier were named the feature performers of this year’s show, which takes place Sept. 5 and 6 at Brunswick Executive Airport.

It will be the F-22 Raptor’s first appearance in Maine and one of only 20 North American air shows in 2015.

The F-22 Raptor is the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft and one of the most sought-after demon- strations on the air show circuit, according to organizers of the Brunswick event.

Its incredible maneuverability — aided by computerized controls and powerful, thrust-vectoring jet engines — make the F-22 Raptor an astonishing air show aircraft.

The F-22 Raptor performs maneuvers in its air show demonstration that appear to be impossible for a jet aircraft to perform, including hovering, tail slides and paddle turns more common from a civilian bi-plane. The F-22 Raptor also is capable of supersonic flight and will demonstrate incredible high-speed passes as part of its performance.

The F-22 appearing at this year’s show is based at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, and the demonstrations will be flown by Capt. John “Taboo” Cummings of Appleton, Wis.

The Great State of Maine Air Show is held biannually at Brunswick Executive Airport in Brunswick. It features jet teams, world-class civilian performers, rare historical aircraft, demonstrations from the nation’s military and the Kidz’ Zone Play area.
