Once again we witness how intelligent, well-meaning committee members create strange and unfair new rules, this time on the matter of boat mooring regulations. How does this happen? Now Brunswick shorefront property owners can have a mooring, or even the three they have now, but those of us who don’t own at least 100 feet of shorefront (where did that come from?) are denied this right.
Creation of this privileged class of landowners who have exclusive rights to moor in the waters shared by ALL is misguided, wrong and un-democratic. And I don’t buy the explanation that we are so “unique” that special rules are necessary or that we should ”adopt this now, then figure out how to make it better later.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
