TOPSHAM — Doris M. Belanger, 86, of Prospect Street, died in Portland on Monday, March 2, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born in Eagle Lake, Maine, on Oct. 19, 1928, the daughter of Wilfred and Mabel (Shorette) Raymond.

The family moved to Brunswick when she was 10 and Doris attended St. John’s School. At a young age, Doris was employed at Woolworth’s until the age of 16 when she went to work for the Verney Mill until its closing in 1955. She then worked for area shoe shops in Brunswick and Freeport.

On Sept. 6, 1948, she married her best friend Gerard H. Belanger and the couple resided in Topsham to raise their family.

Doris was an active communicant of St. John the Baptist Church; a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Evergreen Club in Brunswick.

She is predeceased by her husband, Gerard, who died on June 14, 1987.

She leaves behind a daughter, Jane M. Bergquist and her husband Kerry of Denmark and a son, Ron Belanger of Topsham; five grandchildren, Aaron and Nicole Coy of Bucksport, Michael and Melissa Coy of Westbrook, Alyssa Coy of Bridgeton, Ron Belanger Jr. of Manchester, N.H., Chelsea Elam Belanger of Brunswick; five greatgrandchildren, Finn, Daniel Ross, Landon Ross, Harlo Ross, Liam Coy; two sisters, Pamela Buckley of Brunswick, Mary Holbrook and her husband Jerry of Brunswick, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Pleasant Street, Brunswick. Burial will be held in the spring at St. John’s Cemetery in Brunswick.
