WATERBORO — Sen. David Woodsome has resigned from the board of selectmen.
The resignation came Tuesday, and Town Administrator Gary Lamb said it was not unexpected as Woodsome had been contemplating the move.
Lamb said Woodsome told him of his resignation by phone Tuesday evening, citing the time constraints of the state Senate which left him unavailable for local duties. Lamb said Woodsome told him he believed it was unfair to the residents for him to be absent from selectmen’s meetings.
Woodsome was re-elected to the board of selectmen in June 2014. He had been chairman, but stepped back from that task earlier this year. His selectman’s term was to expire in 2017.
Woodsome, a Republican, was elected to the Maine Senate in November, and represents District 33, which comprises Waterboro, Sanford, Cornish, Limerick, Newfield, Parsonsfield and Shapleigh.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
