ALNA — Richard R. (Dick) Steen, of Alna, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on March 8, 2015, at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Dick was born in Bath on Jan. 10, 1924, to Aubrey and Esther Steen. Dick grew up in Bath and Arrowsic. He also spent many happy summers in Five Islands. Dick graduated from Morse High School.

He was predeceased by his first wife Claire, who passed away in 1977. He married Arlene Averill on Nov. 29, 1980. They enjoyed many years of traveling and wintering in Avon Park, Fla. One of Dick’s favorite trips was his trip to Alaska with friends. In Dick’s younger years, he enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips to Moosehead Lake with his brothers.

Dick had a great love of all animals but especially his two cats and beloved Yorkshire terrier who he named “Happy.” Dick worked all his life as an oil burner repairman, first for the Steen Company, later for Bert’s Oil Service, before going out on his own.

Dick is survived by his wife Arlene; daughters, Gail Steen Spath of Damariscotta, Maria Bourne and her husband Donn of Round Pond; three stepsons, Jeffrey Averill and wife Cindie, Stephen Averill and wife Patti, Wayne Averill and wife Peggy, all of Alna. Grandsons, Dick Rioux, Matthew Rioux, John Rioux and Wyatt Ray. Step grandsons, Mike Averill, Dan Averill and Sumner Averill. Step granddaughters, Kimberly Averill, Laura Lynch and Audrey Blagdon, four great-grandchildren, and his brother Aubrey Steen of Bath, as well as several nieces and one nephew.

At Dick’s request, there will be no funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to The Sussman House, 40 Anchor Way, Rockport, ME 04856 or to Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
