FREEPORT
Freeport Police said they used a Taser in order to subdue a man who had been fighting on Wednesday night. Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Circle Drive reported at 7:51 p.m. and arrested Bruce F. Egan, 52, of Freeport.
Egan had been allegedly fighting with two other males, age 26 and 48.
“Egan was out of control and not complying with the officer’s commands,” wrote Freeport Police Lt. Susan Nourse in an email. “The officers were not able to effectively subdue him physically, so they went to another tool, the taser. Initially, the taser was not effective, but eventually Egan stopped fighting.”
Egan was charged with disorderly conduct for fighting and with refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
Nourse said there were no injuries as a result of the altercation.
Tasers are meant to be a non-lethal weapon that uses an electric shock to incapacitate a subject.
