All are welcome to attend a “No Blarney Legislative Update” on March 16, 7-9 p.m. at Wells High School, 200 Sanford Road. The guest speaker will be Heidi Sampson, co-founder of No Common Core Maine and Member of the State Board of Education. This public forum will focus on bills under consideration in the State Legislature and their impact on the proficiency-based diploma system, the quality of Maine’s educational standards, the elimination of high-stakes testing, and the privacy of student personal information. State senators and representatives from across York County have also been invited to speak on legislation they are sponsoring. There will be time for questions following the talks and special “green” refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by the Wells Republican Municipal Committee. We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
