Republicans are standing up to Governor Paul Le Page. Senate President Mike Thibodeau and Senate Majority Leader Garrett Mason publicly disagree with important dimensions of the Governor’s proposed budget. I think this takes some genuine courage. It deserves praise. There is so little of that in politics. Critical discussion that brings attention to and informs the public about such a crucial issue is golden. We the people seldom get a clear picture of the debate, so much of it going on behind closed doors; and much of that of a harsh partisan nature.
I figured that in this situation, a Green voice of praise for Republicans might be just the thing, since I don’t hear Democrats doing it.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
