SACO — Normand Wilfrid LaBranche, 76, of Saco, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at home.

He was born in Biddeford on Oct. 31, 1938, a son of Leopold and Florida (Frechette) LaBranche. He graduated from St. Andre’s elementary school and graduated from high school with the Brothers of Sacred Heart in Rhode Island. He later graduated from Northeast Technical School.

Normand was a Brother of the Sacred Heart. He served in Africa for seven years in Basutoland, now called Lesotho. He also did the maintenance work at the schools run by the brothers.

On July 7, 1973, Normand married Diana Timmons. He was employed by Hillphoenix as a refrigeration technician for many years.

His hobbies included deep sea fishing, taking cruises with his wife and road trips throughout New England. He was known amongst his friends to fix anything for them. He will be sadly missed.

He is preceded in death by: his wife, Diana, on April 20, 2014; and by one sister, Jeanne Lessard.

He is survived by: two sons, Gary K. Underwood and his wife Suzanna of Alfred, and Gregory K. Underwood and his wife Celeste of Saco; four grandchildren, Christopher, Douglas, Samuel and Victoria; three siblings, Donald LaBranche and his wife Irene of Lewiston, Guy LaBranche and his wife Shirley of South Portland, and Leo (Laura) LaBranche of Flagstaff, Arizona; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. the same day, at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
