Cape Care holds open house

On Tuesday, March 31, 5-6:30 p.m., the Cape Care program offered by Cape Elizabeth Community Services will hold an open house event. This preschool program is designed to promote early childhood learning and school preparedness.

In addition, Cape Care also offers both before- and after-school care for kids in preschool through sixth grade. Registration has already begun for the 2015-2016 school year and space is limited.

Full Plates benefit at Inn by the Sea

On Thursday, March 26, 4:30-9 p.m., the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth will hold a special event to benefit the Full Plates Full Potential program, which has a goal of ending childhood hunger in Maine.

The evening includes fabulous food, cocktails and a chance to shop for specialty jewelry, skin care products, fashion accessories, chocolates, flowers and more. See the Full Plates Full Potential Facebook page for more information.

‘Local Writers at The Local Buzz’

On Saturday, March 28, from 4-5 p.m., “Local Writers at The Local Buzz” will continue its monthly reading series featuring Maine writers reading original fiction, nonfiction and poetry. The Local Buzz cafe? and wine bar lineup for March features award-winning author Bill Roorbach, poet David Sloane, and essayist Penny Guisinger. Located at 327 Ocean House Road in Cape Elizabeth, The Local Buzz events are co-hosted by Portland Poet Laureate Marcia F. Brown and poet Linda Aldrich.

Bill Roorbach’s latest novel “The Remedy for Love,” was a finalist for the 2014 Kirkus Fiction Prize. His novel “Life Among Giants,” a Maine Literary Award winner, is in development for a dramatic series with HBO. His memoir in nature, “Temple Stream,” also a Maine Literary Award winner, was just reissued by Down East Books in a new paperback edition. He lives with his family and a large number of animals in Farmington, where he writes full time. More information at www.billroorbach.com.

Poet David Sloan is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast MFA Poetry Program and teaches in Maine’s only Waldorf high school. He is the author of two books on teaching. His debut poetry collection, “The Irresistible In-Between,” was published by Deerbrook Editions in 2013. He was won numerous awards.

Penny Guisinger lives and writes on the easternmost tip of the United States. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Guernica, Fourth Genre, River Teeth, Solstice Literary Magazine, Under the Gum Tree, Exit 7, and About Place Journal. Her essay “Coming Out” was a finalist in the 2013 Michael Steinberg Essay Contest, and one called “Provincetown” was awarded an editor’s choice award from Solstice.

Community egg hunt offered

On Saturday, March 28, noon-2 p.m., Coastal Wellness Family Chiropractic in Cape Elizabeth will host its eighth annual Easter egg hunt for the community.

Children of all ages are invited to search for eggs filled with a variety of special treasures. This event is free, but pre-registration is requested. Call 799-9355 to sign up or for more information.
