Learn about lumberjacks
A special screening of the documentary film, “In The Blood,” which illustrates the life, history and character of turn-of-the-century Maine lumbermen and river drivers, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at Cape Elizabeth High School.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Cape Elizabeth Community Services at 799-2868.
The movie, by Sumner McKane, is a multimedia presentation that allows the viewer to take a virtual journey into the Maine woods. Lumbermen began living in logging camps in the Maine woods in the early 1800s. They were pioneers who created self-contained, working communities and on whose backs the state’s economy and history were largely established.
“In The Blood” takes the audience into this rugged environment by combining archived films, photographs and oral histories told by the men themselves. The film is also accompanied by live music, which was composed by McKane and Joshua Robbins.
