YARMOUTH — The Freeport High School girls lacrosse team dropped its season opener to York on Thursday, 11-4 at North Yarmouth Academy’s artificial turf field.

Lizzy Martin and Julia Deargave the Falcons an early lead, but the Wildcats responded with seven-straight goals.

Courtney Broderick and Emily Johnson ended York’s scoring streak to make it 7-4.

Emma Rohrer tallied three goals for the Wildcats, followed by Allie Lawler and Kate Marshall with two each. Freeport goalie Sam Jordan made nine saves.

The Falcons resume play on April 30 when they travel to Cape Elizabeth. Bryce Kuhn had six goals and seven assists as the host Yachtsmen (1-0) rolled to a Western Maine Conference season-opening win.

Devin Russell picked up five goals and a helper, while George Gilbert chipped in four goals and one assist.

Freeport (0-1) has time to recover with a home date against Fryeburg Academy on April 28.
