White Sox promote LHP Rodon
CHICAGO (AP) — The White Sox have promoted top pitching prospect Carlos Rodon from Triple-A Charlotte.
Rodon is expected to work out of Chicago’s bullpen for now. The No. 3 overall pick in last year’s amateur draft went 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts with the Knights.
Chicago also reinstated right-hander Jake Petricka from the 15-day disabled list before its game against Cleveland on Monday night. The reliever had been out with a right forearm strain.
Javy Guerra was placed on the DL with shoulder inflammation, and right-hander Kyle Drabek was designated for assignment. The move for Guerra is retroactive to April 13.
The 26-year-old Petricka went 1-6 with a 2.96 ERA and 14 saves in 67 appearances last year. He led all major league rookies in saves.
Adrian Wilson retires as a Cardinal
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Adrian Wilson played at New England and Chicago after leaving the desert.
His biggest contributions came when he played in Arizona and now he’s going to go out as a Cardinal.
Wilson signed a contract with Arizona on Monday, leaving the NFL the way he came in.
Wilson spent 12 seasons with Arizona after being a third-round pick in the 2001 draft. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro with the Cardinals.
Wilson is one of six players in NFL history to accumulate at least 25 sacks and 25 interceptions.
He had 987 tackles, 25 1/2 sacks, 27 interceptions and four touchdowns in 181 games, including 162 starts.
Sharks part ways with HC Todd McLellan
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Todd McLellan is out after seven years as coach of the San Jose Sharks.
The team announced Monday that McLellan and the Sharks agreed to part ways after the team missed the playoffs for the first time since 2003. McLellan had one year remaining on his contract.
McLellan had a successful run with the Sharks despite the latest disappointing season and an inability for the team to get over the playoff hump and make the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.
McLellan had a 311-163-66 regular-season record with the Sharks, the third best in the league since he took over before the 2008-09 season. But San Jose finished 12th out of 14 teams in the Western Conference this season and missed the postseason.
