Land trust holds photo contest

The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust is seeking photographs that represent natural areas, agricultural lands and preserved lands that celebrate the town’s “Living Landscapes” as part of an upcoming photo contest. Three photos will be chosen by a panel of judges and used as note cards and in the land trust’s promotional materials. All submissions are due by Aug. 15 and may be posted on the land trust website for the duration of the contest. Winners will be announced at the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust 30th Anniversary Celebration on Aug. 29. Genealogy group hosts talk on stonecutter

The Greater Portland chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will host a talk on 19th century, Portland-based, stonecutter Bartlett Adams at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cape Elizabeth.

Adams ran a shop that produced hundreds of slate and marble gravestones for graveyards in Cumberland County and beyond, according to lecturer Ray Romano.
