FREEPORT — Florence Mildred Toothaker, age 88, of Old County Road and formerly of Brunswick, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at the Hawthorne House.

She was born in East Harpswell on June 30, 1926, the daughter of Stephen and Ida Miller Catlin. Florence attended the Cranberry Horn School in East Harpswell and was a 1945 graduate of Brunswick High School.

In February of 1946 she married Raymond S. Toothaker. In 1950 she and her husband moved to Topsham. Florence was a homemaker devoted to raising her family and later worked at Health Tex until retiring.

Florence was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Brunswick, a Cub Scouts and a Respite Program volunteer in Brunswick. She had also lived at Pejepscot Terrace for several years.

Florence enjoyed raising her children, being around the salt water, playing Scrabble and eating Italian sandwiches with friends while making sure they withheld the cheese. “No cheese please!”

Surviving are two daughters Ellen McLemore and her husband Homer of Windham and Judy Reid of Brunswick. A son David Toothaker and his wife Naomi of Sanford. Four grandchildren Andrew and Eric Toothaker, Michelle Lewis and Adam McLemore. Five great-grandchildren Abigail and Jacob Toothaker, Ian, Hunter and Katherine Lewis.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral service will be Tuesday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Judkins officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Topsham.
