Oak Hill Grange holds open house

The Oak Hill Grange in Scarborough will hold its annual open house on Sunday, April 26, from noon-3 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. The grange hall is located at the corner of Highland Avenue and Black Point Road. This celebration is also part of National Grange Month, which this year has a theme of “Honor our Vietnam Veterans.” Call Kerri at 329-9962 for more information.

Budget forum called for April 29

On Wednesday, April 29, at 7 p.m., the finance committees of the Scarborough Town Council and Board of Education will hold a budget forum at Scarborough High School.

At the forum the committees will present a brief overview of both the proposed new fiscal year municipal and school budgets and then take questions from residents.

‘Land of the Horses’ author talk

The Scarborough Public Library will hold a special event on Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. with Chris Lombard, author of “Land of the Horses: A Story of a Lost Soul and a Life Found,” and equestrian photographer Helen Peppe.

Lombard will share the personal journey that led him to write the book and the healing that can come when humans and horses connect, while Peppe will offer a tutorial on horse photography techniques.

Kiwanis club to hold food drive

The Scarborough Kiwanis Club is gearing up for its annual food drive to benefit the local food pantry. The event runs May 2-9.

The food drive will kick off on Saturday, May 2, at 9 a.m. during the club’s annual Kids Fishing Derby, which is held at Bayley’s Camping Resort.

In addition, on Saturday, May 9, the club will take donations from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Dunstan Fire Station or the Scarborough Food Pantry located at 167 Black Point Road.

During the week, donations can be dropped off at Ron Forest & Sons Fence Co., 354 Payne Road, or at Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, 41 Gorham Road. Pickups can also be arranged by calling Jackie Perry at 883-2451 or Sherry Forest at 883-2775.

Kiwanis holds Fishing Derby

The Scarborough Kiwanis Club will hold its 29th annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 2, at Bayley’s Camping Resort. The derby, which is open to kids 3-13, will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The rain date is May 9. See www.scarboroughkiwanis.org for more information.

Event includes a bike raffle, fish races, free finger printing kits and more. Attendees are asked to bring their own poles. Worms will be available for purchase. Attendees are also asked to bring non-perishable food items or grocery store gift cards to benefit the Scarborough Food Pantry.

Marsh, beach cleanup set for Saturday

Celebrate Earth Day by joining the annual spring cleanup of Scarborough’s beaches and the Scarborough Marsh on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m.-noon.

The event is a collaboration between a number of organizations including Friends of Scarborough Marsh, Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center, TogetherGreen, the town of Scarborough, Higgins Beach Association, and others.

There will be sites to be cleaned all around town but check in first at the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center on Route 9. Contact Linda Woodard at 415-8331 or [email protected] for details.

Scarborough Land Trust events slated

On Tuesday, April 28, 5-9 p.m., the Otto Pizza restaurant on John Roberts Road in South Portland will host a benefit for the Scarborough Land Trust.

A portion of the proceeds from all pizzas sold that evening will be donated to the land trust. This includes eat-in, take-out or delivery. Call 772-0900 to place an order or for more information.

Then, on Saturday, May 2, 9 a.m.-noon, the land trust will hold its annual spring clean up. All ages are invited to take part in this great outdoor event.

Work parties are planned for Fuller Farm, Sewell Woods and Libby River Farm. Help pick up winter debris, clear trails, install signs and more. Bring work gloves and wear boots. Call 289-1199 or email [email protected] to sign up or for more information.
