BIDDEFORD — Paul R. Girard, 91, of Biddeford, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility in Biddeford after a long illness.

He was born in Biddeford on March 19, 1924, the son of Arthur and Elizabeth Mannion Girard. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from the former St. Louis High School with the class of 1941.

Paul served with the U.S. Navy “Sea Bees” during World War II.

On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Theresa A. Murphy in St. Mary’s Church in Biddeford. She died Aug. 27, 2003.

Mr. Girard worked over 33 years with Foss Sheet Metal in Saco. He last worked a few years with Don’s Sheet Metal Shop in Biddeford, retiring in 1989.

He was a life member of the St. Louis Alumni Association. He was a founding member of the West Biddeford Little League, serving as treasurer for three years. He was a ping pong enthusiast and enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by: three sons, Steven P. Girard of Ocean View, Deleware, Thomas R. Girard and his wife Deborah of Rockport, and Patrick H. Girard and his wife Kimberly of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two daughters, Elizabeth E. Girard and her partner David of Saco, and Helene Girard Kennedy and her husband Bruce Chemelski of Biddeford; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services are being arranged by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
