The residents of RSU 1 and particularly the families of Phippsburg should be made aware of the potential effects on the Phippsburg Band children if the administration’s continuing funding cuts to the program aren’t reversed in this budget cycle.
The Phippsburg Band’s public performance schedule will be greatly reduced to two concerts per year — Holiday and Spring concerts. This lack of funding will also adversely affect the joint Bath Gazebo concert with St John’s School in May, the Veterans’ parade in Bath on Memorial Day and the Heritage Days Parade on the Fourth of July next year.
The next RSU Board Meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the Bath Middle School for anyone interested in restoring full funding to the Phippsburg band program. In addition, you can show your support by signing the online Petition titled “Reinstate Kathy Downings Pay to 2 Full Days of Band Instruction” on Change.org.
Kadi Skroski, Carol Reece, Charline Wyman, Danielle Paus, Norma Burpee and concerned Phippsburg Community members, and Kathy Downing, Phippsburg Band Director
