BELFAST — Sara Graves and Leia Graves powered the Morse offense as the Shipbuilders evened their record to 1-1 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B 11- 7 win over Belfast on Tuesday.
A five-run fourth innings turned a 2-2 deadlock into a 7-2 Morse lead, and three more runs in the top of the fifth gave the Shipbuilders a big gap before the Lions drew close during a three-run sixth.
Graves doubled twice, while Graves tripled and singled to lead Morse’s nine-hit attack. Marissa Parks doubled, while Meghan Stover, Hope Faulkingham, Olivia Potter and Sierra Wallace each singled.
Parks earned the mound with, going the distance on seven strikeouts, eight hits and four walks.
Mariah Stergis led Belfast (0-2) with three singles.
The Shipbuilders are slated to host Mt. View today at 4 p.m.
Baseball
Belfast answered a rally from Morse with three runs in the sixth inning for a 5-3 KVAC win at Belfast on Tuesday.
The Shipbuilders, who are 0-2 and host Mt. View today at 4 p.m., jumped on top 1-0 when Keegan McDonough walked, stole second and third, and scored on an overthrow.
The Lions (2-0) answered with two runs in the bottom of the first when Drew Stanley delivered a two-run single.
Brendan Harper tied the game for Morse in the fifth on an RBI single, followed by an RBI base hit by Andrew LaCavera for a 3-2 Shipbuilders lead, Belfast rallied as a run scored on a bases-loaded groundball, with two more runners touching the plate on a misplayed ball to the outfield.
Zach Holbrook took the mound loss for Morse, going six innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Harper was 1-for-1 with an RBI and one runs scored.
Alex Flagg was 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Belfast offense.
Boys lacrosse
Sam Wogan scored his fourth goal of the game in the third overtime period to lift Freeport to an 11-10 Western Maine Conference win over Fryeburg Academy on Tuesday.
Wogan also dished out two assists as the Falcons improved to 1-1 and visits Wells on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Eli Fox and Brady LaFrance chipped in two goals each in the win, while goaltender Zac Wogan turned aside 12 shots.
Fryeburg Academy fell to 0-2.
Girls lacrosse
Brunswick High School dropped their second straight game to start the season, by a 10-6 score against Lewiston on Tuesday.
Anna McMillan scored three of the Dragons six goals, with Rebecca Bailey, Dina Murphy and Angelica Boyle each tossing in a goal.
Sydney Anderson and Boyle recorded an assist each on the day.
Brunswick senior and goaltender Emaleigh Aschbrenner stopped seven Blue Devils shots.
The Dragons will hit the road on Thursday to face the Cony Rams at 4 p.m.
