STRONG — A 12-run seventh inning allowed the Lisbon High School softball team to pull away for a 22-3 Mountain Valley Conference win over Mt. Abram on Friday.
The Greyhounds improved to 2-0 and continue on the road today at Monmouth (4:30 p.m.) and Tuesday at Wiscasset (4:30 p.m.).
Monica Austin delivered a two-run double in the win, while Taylor Plourde added two singles to Lisbon’s 14-hit attack.
Kailyn Hill earned the mound win by allowing just three hits.
Mt. Abram fell to 0-3.
BUCKFIELD 3
RICHMOND 7
Meranda Martin shook off a tough start both on the mound and on the base paths to lead the host Bobcats to a big East-West Conference win over rival Buckfield on Friday.
Martin was touched for three first-inning runs and was called out for not touching the second-base bag in what she thought was a triple.
But, the righty was untouchable on the mound the rest of the way, finishing with eight strikeouts, and chipping in with three singles.
“They didn’t hit the ball hard, seeing-eyes, but they scored three runs and we talked about getting one run back at a time,” said Richmond coach Rick Coughlin, whose 3-0 squad is slated to host Valley on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Kalah Patterson drove in two runs with a triple, Emily Douin tripled and Sydney Tilton launched a home run in the Richmond win.
Brianna Damon picked up two RBIs for the Bucks (4-1), while Abby Richardson took the loss with five strikeouts and four walks.
MORSE 10
MED. VALLEY 15
The host Panthers took advantage of seven Morse errors for a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win at Waldoboro, dropping the Shipbuilders to 2-2.
Morse visits Camden Hills today at 4 p.m.
The Shipbuilders claimed a 4-0 first-inning lead, but Medomak Valley scored a run in the first, four in the second and third innings, and five more in the fifth frame for a 13-7 lead.
“Too many walks and errors to overcome, and Medomak’s runs came after two were out and we could not get out of some innings,” said Morse coach Will Laffely.
Gabby Depatsy paced Medomak with two doubles and two singles, while Sophie Cohen singled, doubled and tripled. Depatsy picked up the mound win with 10 strikeouts, one walk, two hit batters and 13 hits.
Mikayla Rose had four singles for Morse. Hope Faulkingham and Sierra Wallace added three singles apiece, while Meghan Stover had two base hits and Leia Graves one.
On the mound, Shipbuilder Marissa Parks struck out seven and walked 15.
MT. ARARAT 1
MT. BLUE 7
Caitlin Kane pitched and hit the host Cougars to a KVAC win at Farmington on Friday.
Kane allowed just four hits on the mound and delivered a key RBI double in the third inning for a 4-0 lead. Teammate Rachele Bator lifted a two-run home run as Mt. Blue improved to 2-3.
Mt. Ararat pitcher Alana Weaver took the loss on six hits and seven strikeouts. At the plate, Weaver, Katelyn Cox, Mikaila Cloutier and Piper Ingle (run scored) each singled for the Eagles.
The Eagles fell to 2-3 and visit Oxford Hills on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
WISCASSET 6
ST. DOM’S 18
A big inning did in the Wolverines as St. Dom’s (1-1) tallied 13 runs in the fourth to break open a close MVC contest on Friday in Auburn.
Wiscasset (1-2) actually outhit the Saints, 5-3, led by Tylan Onorato (triple), Kayla Gordon (single, double) and Charlene Reed (single, double).
But, St. Dom’s took advantage of several walks and the strong pitching of Saints hurler Allie Veinote, who went the distance in the win.
BRUNSWICK 4
BREWER 16
Anna Chute led off the game with a home run over the center-field fence, and the Witches added three more runs in the opening inning in defeating Brunswick in KVAC play on Friday.
The Dragons, down 5-0 after three innings, scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning as Ketty Stinson continued to swing a hot bat. Stinson belted a double to drive in Gianna Gaudet and Ashley Howe.
Brewer answered with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead.
Alicia Armstrong, who reached base on a walk, scored as Gaudet drove a double to left center in the top of the sixth inning. Gaudet later scored on a Stinson single as Brunswick looked to catch the Witches in the late innings.
But, Brewer pulled away from there for the win.
“Brewer was effective in exposing our inexperience today,” said Brunswick coach Hugh Dwyer, whose Dragons host Bangor today at 4 p.m. “They create a lot of noise and distraction that we did not handle very well. We’ll have to build resiliency from this lesson in order to establish our goal to be competitive in our remising contests.”
