TOPSHAM — The Cal Ripken Baseball and Softball leagues began their seasons on Saturday with a full slate of games. Of the day’s schedule, G.M. Wild Construction took on Bubba’s Hairstyling of Topsham, with the visiting Brunswick team take the victory, 14-1.
Bubba’s Hairstyling plated one run in the first inning on singles by Noah Magda and Kobe Clark. However, G.M Wild starting pitcher Oscar Herrara settled in and retired the next three batters.
Over the course of the next six innings, G.M. Wild scored 14-unanswered runs. Scout Masse had three singles on the day for G.M. Wild, with Dalton Cooper and Caleb Thompson adding two hits apiece. Weston Cooper had a two-bagger, while Herrara pitched in with a single.
Bubba’s managed just two hits the rest of the way, with another single from Clark and a hit off the bat of Bode Matthews. The pitching combination of Herrera, Masse and Matty Laforge totaled 14 strikeouts and two walks. Laforge struck out all six batters he faced in the final two frames.
