SABATTUS (AP) — Sabattus police say a fatal crash in town was caused when a driver swerved to avoid a cat in the road.

Police say 58-year-old Kenneth Hutter, of Bowdoinham, was heading west on Crowley Road at about 10:30 a.m. Monday when he tried to avoid the cat, swerved across the center line into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle head-on.

Hutter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people in the other vehicle were transported to Central Maine Medical Center with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
