FREEPORT — Freeport Town Clerk Tracey Stevens will be leaving May 27 to take a job in the town of Melbourne Beach, Fla., in order to be closer to family, according to Town Manager Peter Joseph.
Joseph praised Stevens’ work in Freeport, noting that “the town clerk’s office does a lot more than registering dogs and doing elections.”
“She’s always been one to volunteer to go above and beyond,” Joseph added. “She’s going to be hard to replace for sure.”
Joseph said there will be a rush to find Stevens’ replacement, which must be confirmed by the town council.
Town Council Chairwoman Melanie Sachs also spoke highly of Stevens.
“There is a reason why she was clerk of the year last year,” Sachs said, referring to the award given by the Maine Town and City Clerks Association in 2014.
