Summer’s almost here, and we’re in that weird time of year when it’s in the 80s one day and the 50s the next.

But mornings can still be cool, so it’s not quite time to put away the hot breakfast options. Fiddler’s Green Farm & Milling Co. in North Vassalboro, a stone mill in midcoast Maine, produces a line of hot cereals and pancake mixes that includes “Islander’s Choice 7-Grain Hot Cereal.” It’s a blend of wheat, oats, corn, rice, rye, millet and barley, and it’s all organic.

The package says you can serve it plain, but I found it to be bland without some maple syurup, cinnamon – something – to give it a little flavor. But it will indeed stick to your ribs, warm you up for the start of your day, and make you feel good about your choice of breakfast.
