Free tuition offered at suicide survivor camp
Camp Kita, a weeklong overnight camp for kids ages 8-17 that have lost a parent or loved one to suicide, is offering free tuition for 2015.
The camp, located on the shores of Thompson Lake in Poland, will run Aug. 16-22. See www.campkita.com or email [email protected] to register or for more information.
Camp Kita provides a safe, nurturing environment where children can connect with one another while learning constructive ways to deal with the often unspeakable and fierce emotions of losing a loved one to suicide.
“Our focus on grief dovetails with an equally important focus on hope,” the camp’s website states. “Most importantly, we empower campers to utilize the tools and resources we provide so that they may draw upon them throughout their lives, and we have fun.”
Those grieving a loss by suicide experience a unique grief, but the stigma attached to taking one’s own life often leaves these survivors silenced. Camp Kita is designed to be a recreational and therapeutic summer camp focused on child survivors.
