HARPSWELL — Irene Palmer Moody passed away on May 19, 2015.

This long journey started on Oct. 27, 1929. It was a cold snowy day when Alfred and Mildred Palmer and the rest of the world were blessed with the arrival of a baby girl Irene Virginia Palmer. She was born in the Guernsey Villa in West Harpswell, she was one of seven children.

She is predeceased by her husband Ernest Moody, her siblings, Arthur, Ralph, Shirley, Ann, as well as sonin law Gary Gaydos. Her sister Betty Douglas resides in Harpswell and brother Russell Palmer at the Hill House in West Bath.

Irene lived the majority of her life right there in the little village of West Harpswell. When she was a child the family did move to Steuben ( Downeast Maine) and Freeport for short times. She was born two days before the big day of the stock market crash.

Irene was a fantastic person and could teach John Wayne something about true grit! As a teenager she worked at Sunset Farms waiting on tables she also worked in the family store in West Harpswell! She worked at Bailey’s Store, Bowdoin College, O’Briens Hamburger and then went to work for Shaw’s until she retired in 1991!

She is also survived by lifelong friends Dan and Kay Wildes and family.

She loved camping for many years with the Wildes, her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed many winters in Florida and taking cruises with family and friends.

The family would like to express special thanks to the Hill House for their outstanding care especially to Kristen Roberts and Abbie Smith. We would also like to thank CHANS Hospice.
