When the Downeaster train expanded its itinerary to include a trip from Portland to Brunswick in 2012, no one reaped the benefits more than Maine State Music Theatre.

Each summer when our actors and other company members return to MSMT for the season, we are faced with the daunting task of arranging travel for each individual’s arrival — this often is upwards of 100 people. Having a train available to assist in the last leg of our employees’ journey to Brunswick has made all of the difference in the world for the kickoff of our season.

However this year, due to construction on the railways, our reliance on the train has waned. The 2015 Tie Replacement Project, however necessary, has taken place in conjunction with our company’s arrival period. To remedy this situation, we have placed more dependence than ever on our volunteer group, appropriately named “The Angels.”

The Angels have rallied together to provide transportation for our summer staff and all of the brilliant actors who relocate and inhabit Brunswick for the summer. Beyond this incredible task, The Angels go above and beyond by “adopting” interns for the summer, making them feel welcome in an often unfamiliar place, hundreds of miles from home. Furthermore, they volunteer as ushers throughout the season, assist in canvassing, and countless other invaluable tasks throughout the season.

We are eternally grateful to the community’s support throughout the years and look forward to thanking the Midcoast region by bringing Broadway to Brunswick yet again.
