BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Binghamton Mets (25-22) had three pitchers combine on a five-hit shutout, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (21-27) 2-0 on Thursday morning at NYSEG Stadium. Despite the loss, the Sea Dogs took 2-of-3 in the series, but had their road-winning streak snapped at five.

Portland rallied in the ninth inning, putting two on, but Paul Sewald forced Aneury Tavarez to foul out to earn the save.

Luis Cessa (4-3) tossed six strong innings, yielding three hits (all with two outs) and five strikeouts to earn the win for Binghamton. Justin Haley (1-6) suffered the toughluck loss for the Sea Dogs, allowing both runs over 5-plus innings on nine hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

Aderlin Rodriguez had the game-winning hit, smacking a two-run double off Haley in the sixth inning. Robby Scott relieved Haley in the sixth and stranded two runners.

Jantzen Witte went 2-for-4, picking up his team-leading 16th multi-hit game of the season.

The Sea Dogs open up a three-game weekend series tonight against the Trenton Thunder at Arm and Hammer Park, beginning at 7 p.m. Luis Diaz (0-4, 6.20) makes his 10th start of the season for Portland. Trenton counters with lefty Caleb Smith (2-3, 5.14).
