Vote for best ice cream flavor

As part of Cape Elizabeth’s 250th anniversary celebration, residents are encouraged to vote for the signature ice cream flavor that best represents the town.

The winner will receive a gallon of the ice cream and the chance that Kettle Cove Creamery will add the special flavor to its regular menu.

Entry forms and drop boxes are located at the Cape Elizabeth Community Center, Town Hall, the IGA and various businesses around town. The deadline for entries is Friday, June 5.

Take a walk on Trails Day

In celebration of National Trails Day, Cape Elizabeth Land Trust will hold a cross-town walk on Saturday, June 6, 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and the event includes snacks, drinks and lunch.

All participants must register at least 48 hours in advance of the program. Go online to www.capelandtrust.org or call 767-6054 to register or for more information. Meet at Fort Williams Park at the Portland Head Light parking area.

During the walk, participants will traverse seven miles of trails highlighting Cape’s great natural places. This walk offers a unique overview of Cape’s diverse ecosystems including the Spurwink Marsh, Robinson Woods and Great Pond.

Church to offer Friday Fun Nights

Starting on Friday, June 5, the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist

Church will host two “Friday Fun Nights” sessions for pre-teens and teens. The program will be offered each Friday in June.

The pre-teen session, which is designed for kids under 13 and their families, will run 6-7:30 p.m. The teen session, for those 13 and up, will run 7:30-11 p.m. The activities offered will include age-appropriate movies and both indoor and outdoor games.

Celebrate Maine tales at library

The Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth is hosting two upcoming theatrical programs to celebrate what makes Maine special. Both are free and open to the public. See www.thomasmemoriallibrary.org or call 799-1720 or more information.

The first event, “The Moose in Me, the Moose in You,” by Susan Poulin will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10. Follow the adventures of Ida LeClair as she becomes a certified Maine Life Guide.

Then, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, actress Rita Parisi from Waterfall Productions will present “Gothic Victorian Tales by Candlelight.” This presentation will feature stories about curses, death and immortality by Maine author Sarah Orne Jewett.

Free document shredding offered

Residents of Cape Elizabeth can bring their personal, sensitive documents to the Recycling Center on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for free and confidential shredding by Without a Trace Shredding, Inc. Residents are limited to four boxes of paper per vehicle.

Garden club holds plant, pie sale

The Cape Elizabeth Garden Club will hold its annual plant and pie sale on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Shirley Maxwell-Royall’s greenhouse, located at 102 Two Lights Road.

The sale will include plants from the gardens of club members and pies fresh from their ovens. The club welcomes new members. Call 799-0229 for more information.
