BRUNSWICK — Brunswick-based Gelato Fiasco was selected by Google to serve as Maine’s case study example of a business that is using the Internet to achieve better results with limited resources in the internet giant’s annual Economic Impact Report.
The report is a study highlighting the economic benefits received by businesses and nonprofits across the country through the continued growth of e–commerce. It also includes business examples and growth statistics from all 50 states.
According to a news release, last year alone, Google helped provide $328 million of economic activity for 5,600 Maine businesses.
According to Google, Gelato Fiasco’s revenue grew from $1.9 million in 2013 to $3.1 million in 2014 and their gelato is now sold in over 2,000 grocery stores across the U.S.
The company has been aided by Google products, and uses email and social media to keep customers engaged, sending out daily Flavor Alerts and posting a menu of each store’s flavors every day on their website. YouTube videos offer a peek at how the gelato is made, using milk from Maine dairy farms and other ingredients.
