Once again, area residents are faced with a troubling vote from our school district. Instead of a reasonable plan that recognizes steady enrollment declines, and exercises true consolidation and sustainability, we are asked to support a bloated operating budget for six facilities that have excess space. We’re faced with a colossal construction bond that keeps open too many facilities with too many empty seats.
Most troubling, we are asked to support the excessive KHS construction plan, when many believe there is more that could be cut before approval by the voters. Please don’t forget – last year, we were repeatedly told the former plan for the high school was the “absolute minimum” needed. After the election defeat, it appears that wasn’t factual, as major cuts were made. Now, we’re being given the same story again. Is it true?
It’s a real shame that citizens are repeatedly pitted against each other over money, but some are already struggling to pay for basic necessities, and a giant tax hike just isn’t affordable. It doesn’t mean we hate little children – it means we’re in danger of losing our homes.
So, review the facts, vote your conscience, but please do remember to vote on June 9.
