Hird receives Yarosewick Family Education Award

KEENE, N.H. — Caroline Hird of York was recently honored by Keene State College with the Yarosewick Family Education Award. This award was created by Mary-Lou S. Yarosewick to recognize outstanding students who are pursuing a teaching career in elementary or early childhood education and are devoted to community service.

Local students named to spring dean’s list

Gillian Foss graduates from Marist College

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Gillian Foss of Old Orchard Beach received a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Marist College the weekend of May 23.

Providence College awards undergraduate degrees

PROVIDENCE, R. I. — The following local residents were among more than 800 students from Providence College who received undergraduate degrees during the college’s 97th commencement exercises held on May 17: Andrew Lemoine, of Saco, received a bachelor’s degree; and Taylor Mezoian, of Old Orchard Beach, received a bachelor’s degree Magna Cum Laude.

Katherine Leavitt to study in Baja

OXFORD, Ohio — Eliot resident Katherine Leavitt, a master’s student in the Global Field Program from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly, will travel to Baja in summer 2015. Leavitt will study the diverse desert and marine landscapes of two richly diverse biosphere reserves through ecological and social field methods.

Saint Michael’s College announces graduates

Local student graduated from Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. — William Christian Brayden III of Saco received a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross at its 169th commencement on May 22.

Porter earns degree at Johnson State College

JOHNSON, Vt. — Johnson State College’s 148th commencement took place on May 16. Jillian Porter of Springvale earned a bachelor’s degree in health sciences.

Parent graduates Lasell College

NEWTON, Mass. — Nicholas Parent of Kennebunkport received an MSSM degree from Lasell College in December 2014. The achievement was announced during commencement exercises on the Newton, Massachusetts campus in May. Parent majored in sport management.

Local students graduate from Bowdoin College

BRUNSWICK— During Bowdoin College’s 210th Commencement ceremony, held May 23, bachelor of arts degrees were awarded to students from 36 states, the District of Columbia, and 18 other countries and territories.

York County include: Samuel Canales of Saco majored in government and legal studies and minored in economics; Ethan Drigotas of Kennebunk majored in psychology and a minored in government and legal studies; and Elijah Ober of Eliot majored in anthropology and a minored in visual arts.

Lindsey Kate Contella of York graduates from Clemson University

CLEMSON, S.C. — Lindsey Kate Contella of York graduated May 8 from Clemson University. She received a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry .

Fournier earns master’s degree

BIDDEFORD — Marcy Helene Fournier of Biddeford recently received her master’s degree in education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction from New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire with a 4.0 GPA. Miss Fournier received her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine at Farmington in 2003 and has been teaching for 12 years. She has taught at Saint Thomas School in Sanford and is currently the second-grade teacher at Saint James School in Biddeford. Miss Fournier is the daughter of Marc and Helen Fournier, also of Biddeford.

Local student named to York College of Pennsylvania dean’s list

YORK, Pa. — Emma Frazier, a junior from Lebanon, majoring in early elementary/special education at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

Scontras named to dean’s list

WALTHAM, Mass. — Jennifer Mary Scontras, daughter of Stanley and Mary Scontras of Saco, was named to the fall 2014 dean’s list at Brandeis University. Jennifer is a graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco, Class of 2011. She is a senior, majoring in neuroscience and biology with a minor in classical studies. She is applying to medical school.

Jennifer is a certified EMT in Maine and Massachusetts. At Brandeis, she was elected as director of operations of the university’s campus Emergency Services. As such, she is responsible for personnel management, medical operations, organizational oversight and she interacts with the campus medical director.

Jennifer is also a volunteer with Kennebunkport EMS when she is in Maine.

She is a teaching assistant in lab classes. She also arranges music and sings in the campus acapella group, Rather Be Giraffes.

CMCC dean’s list announced
