LISBON FALLS — Twelve fifth-inning runs helped the Lisbon High School softball team shut the door on Wiscasset in a 23-8 Mountain Valley Conference victory.

The two teams met once again after last week’s originally scheduled contest was rained out in the first inning. It was the second time the visiting team had to travel to the hosts field this season.

Ali Sult had two RBIs for the Greyhounds, while going 1-for-2 with a triple. Loren Grant and Monica Austin contributed a hit each and added an RBI to their game resume.

Lindsey Gordon was 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI for the visiting Wolverines, while Kayla Gordon and Tylan Onorato each singled.

Lisbon, which sits at 9-6, will complete its regular season today, traveling to Mountain Valleyfora1p.m.game.

Wiscasset fell to 1-14 on the year and will complete its regular season today with a 1 p.m. contest at home against Oak Hill.

The Falcons’ regular season came to a close on Wednesday with a shutout loss to Western Maine Conference opponent Gray-New Gloucester.

The visiting Patriots scored two runs in the top of the first, one in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead, while tacking on their final run in the seventh.

Jill Baker led the offensive efforts for the Falcons, putting together a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Skye Conley was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double for the Patriots. Maria Valente contributed to the Patriots’ offense with three singles of her own.

Falcons’ pitchers Brianna Welch and Bailey Karnes shared time on the mound, allowing 11 hits, while striking out three. G-NG’s Alison Martell pitched all seven innings, striking out seven and walking five.

Oxford Hills scored seven runs in the first three innings and looked to put Brunswick away early in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference play, but the Dragons battled back before falling short in the final game of the regular season.

Hannah Kenney sparked the Vikings’ offense with three hits including a triple and a fourth inning home run, collecting five RBIs and scoring three runs.

The Dragons (1-15), down 9-0 entering the home half of the fourth inning, got on the scoreboard when Emily Girardin walked and stole second. She later scored on a Gianna Gaudet single.

In the fifth inning, senior captain Ashley Howe doubled to deep center field and scored on a Shelby Plourde sacrifice after advancing to third on a wild pitch.

Brunswick continued to chip away at the scoring, adding three runs over the final two innings before Vikings’ pitcher Erika Whitman forced a ground out to end the game.

Alicia Armstrong and Hannah Escoe had two singles each for the Dragons. Plourde added a double to her day.

“We made a couple of errors and had two big calls go against us,” Dragons head coach Hugh Dwyer said. “But, the girls had a determined mindset today and that was sustained throughout the contest.”
