The Top 10 students in the Richmond High School Class of 2015 have been released, including the students who earned valedictorian and salutatorian honors. Richmond will conduct its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. Saurday, June 6 at Richmond High School.
The following students are recognized for their academic accomplishments:
Valedictorian
Cameron Jeffrey Emmons, son of Ronald and Patricia Emmons of Richmond. Cameron has been a multisport athlete of soccer, cross country, basketball and baseball all four years at RHS; captain of basketball his junior and senior year, and soccer captain his senior year. He has been a participant of Key Club, Math team, National Honor Society, Student Council, Drama, and a Big Buddy mentor at Marcia Buker Elementary School. Cameron was the MPA Principal Award recipient this year. He plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono, studying engineering.
Salutatorian
Samantha Oakes, daughter of Anita and Edward Carter, and Fulton Oakes III. Samantha has participated in Richmond High School’s Day of Caring the last 2 years, and plans to attend SMCC, studying Early Childhood Education.
The Top 10
Michaela Carney, daughter of Mary Shields Carney, and Dennis and Donna Carney. Michaela participated in many in-school activities during her 4 years at Richmond High School: Madrigals, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Civil Rights Team, Prom Committee. She was a Big Buddy at Marcia Buker Elementary School, and participated in a selfdesigned internship at Mabel I. Wilson Elementary School. Michaela plans to attend University of Maine at Farmington, majoring in Elementary Education.
Bailey Johansen, son of Kaj & Stacy Johansen, and Stephanie Lerette & Eric Tattle. Bailey, a 3 sport athlete
at Richmond HS, playing baseball, basketball and soccer all four years, as well as participating in Math Team and National Honor Society. He plans to attend Norwich University in the fall, majoring in Construction Management.
Charity Noel Winokurzew, daughter of Olef and Rhonda Winokurzew of Richmond. Charity was a member of cross country, track and band all four years of her high school career. She also participated in Key Club, Math team, student government, National Technical Honors Society at CATC, and volunteered as a Vacation Bible school teacher and church pianist. Charity plans to attend Pensacola Christian College in the fall.
Alexander Payson, son of Jeff and Tricia Payson of Richmond. Alex has been involved in baseball and trains at MMAathletix. He participated in the Building Construction program at CATC, earning the highest grade in class award. He plans to work for Kennebec Builders.
Pedro Borges, with host family Deanne and Richard Rice. Pedro is an exchange student from Brazil, and while being at Richmond High School for the year has participated in soccer, basketball and baseball. He plans to return to Brazil and attend college.
Sabrina Keenan, daughter of Katie and Alphonse Keenan of Richmond. Sabrina participated in soccer, Key Club and dance while at Richmond High School, and plans to attend Capilo’s in
the fall, with the intent of owning her own business.
Drew Winship Reed Ludgin, son of Katy Reed and Peter Ludgin of Dresden. Drew participated in the Special Olympics, Chorus & Madrigals, Day of Caring, Comic Book Club and swimming lessons while at Richmond High School. He plans to “go to Jamaica and spend time on the beach.”
Tala Abu Hayyaneh, daughter of Ra’ed Abu Hayyaneh and Amira Haymour, hosted by Jacki and Chris Medeiros. Tala is an exchange student from Jordan, and absolutely has enjoyed her time at Richmond High School while participating in soccer and basketball. Upon her return to Jordan, she plans to apply to college to study International Relations.
Kelsie Nkem Obi, daughter of Mitzi Obi and granddaughter of Cynthia Dowd and Marisa Morrell of Richmond. Kelsie has been involved in softball, soccer all four years, and a captain of both at Richmond High School. She also has participated in Key Club, Math team, student government and CNA training at CATC, and plans to attend USM in the fall.
Gwen Tomascik, daughter of Laurie and Christopher Tomascik of Richmond. Gwen has participated in Band all four years at Richmond High School, and has been involved in student government, Prom committee, basketball and CATC for CNA training. Gwen plans to attend USM in the fall for nursing.
