The Friends of Alfred Shaker Museum, or FASM, will “set the table” for a dinner fundraiser on Sunday, June 7 at the museum. On the menu will be authentic Shaker cuisine using their own recipes, the kinds of food the Shakers made for themselves after a day of “mindful labor.”
Tickets for the meal are $25 a person and are available at DeWolfe & Woods Antiquarian Books on the green in the center of Alfred. The meal will be based on recipes from several Shaker cookbooks. Seating is limited and tickets are moving quickly.
For more information, see the museum’s web site at www.alfredshakermuseum.org or contact museum curator Linda Aaskov at 490-5709.
The income generated by the event will help support museum operations. It is the first time the Friends organization has done such a fundraiser. In this case, the event ties in with the theme of the new season’s exhibit, “The Shaker Kitchen,” opening at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 16.
FASM also will hold a Women’s Drumming Circle at the museum on Friday, June 5, at 7 p.m. The museum is located at 118 Shaker Hill Road in Alfred.
To register for that event, call Curator Aaskov at the number above. The requested donation for it is $10.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
