Falmouth High School held their graduation ceremony on June 7 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. The following students earned the ranking of top 10 percent for the class of 2015.

CBickerstaff

CAYMAN BICKERSTAFF
He is the son of Shea and Caryn Bickerstaff. He has been an AP student, a member of the National Honor Society, and has achieved high honors throughout his high school career. In his four years at Falmouth, Cayman has been a varsity member of the high school track and cross country teams, a member of the ultimate frisbee team, a member of the high school band and chorus, as well as a member of the vocal jazz ensemble. He participated in the Habitat for Humanity trip to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where he helped to continue the rebuilding efforts on the Gulf Coast due to Hurricane Katrina. Outside of school, Cayman has earned his black belt in karate and competed for many years on local, regional, and international circuits, earning recognition in the World Top Ten four years in a row. Cayman will attend Sewanee: The University of the South in the fall where he plans to study medicine.

SCaldwellSARAH CALDWELL
She is the daughter of Sharon Leskanic and Jim Caldwell. She is an AP scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, and a recipient of both the University of Rochester Young Leaders Award and the Cornell Book Award. Sarah was also a representative to Dirigo Girls State and the recipient of the DAR Good Citizen Award. For the past 10 years, she has excelled as a competitive gymnast, training year round at Maine Academy of Gymnastics, and holding both state and regional titles. A leader of the Service Club, Sarah is actively involved in many community activities, including advocacy and awareness for ALS, the disease her dad passed away from in 2013. For her work, she was named the 2014 recipient of the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for Maine and a 2015 AXA Foundation National Achiever. Sarah recently published a book, “Just to Make You Smile,” which, among other things, details her journey through her dad’s illness. Sarah will attend Yale University in the fall where she plans to continue gymnastics and major in biology.

ECantlinETHAN CANTLIN
He is the son of Michael and Patricia Cantlin and brother to Meghan Cantlin. He is an AP Scholar, a member of National Honor Society, and has achieved high honors throughout his high school years. He is a co-leader of the Service Club and a chair of the Outing Club, and has spent endless hours with both. Ethan was heavily involved in athletics, participating in outdoor track, three varsity seasons of cross-country, and four varsity state-winning seasons of nordic skiing. His senior year he was co-captain of the nordic ski team and raced for Maine’s Eastern High School nordic ski team. He attended Dirigo Boys State his junior summer and pursued the Falmouth High School STEM endorsement. Outside of high school, he followed his outdoor passions by hiking, climbing, kayaking, skiing, biking, and everything in between. This summer, Ethan will be attending a NOLS Mountaineering course in Seattle. He will continue his adventure this fall by attending Rensselaer where he plans to study mechanical engineering.

MCosterMAGGIE COSTER
She is the daughter of Mike and Kathy Coster. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Finalist, a member of the National Honor Society, and the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine book award. As a regular volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club in Portland, Maggie taught a cooking class for the club’s youngest members and was named the Southern Maine Boys and Girls Club Teen Volunteer of the Year in the fall of 2014. For the last four years, she has been an active member of the Theatre Company and a part of several regional and state championship winning productions, as well as the recipient of an All-Festival Cast Award.  She has been a member of the varsity ski team throughout high school and served as captain her junior and senior year when girls alpine won its first state championship. She also served as the vice president of the FHS Civics Club this past year and has been an elected class officer throughout high school. Maggie will attend Bowdoin College in the fall where she plans to study government and history.

AErtmanALEXANDRA ERTMAN
She is the daughter of Douglas Ertman and Elisabeth Theiler Ertman. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of the National Honor Society and the Tri-M Honor Society. She is the recipient of the John Philip Sousa Band Award, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, and the Arion Award for her excellence in academics and music. An avid flute and saxophone player, Alexandra has played in various school and district ensembles and was selected to participate in the All-National Concert Band, All-Eastern Jazz Ensemble, All-New England Concert Band, All-State Concert Band, Orchestra, and Honors Jazz Band, the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, and the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. At school, Alexandra was a member of the Environmental Action Committee and was a peer tutor. All through high school, Alexandra enjoyed mentoring Falmouth Middle School Math Team students and fifth grade flute students, and has been a counselor at the Da Vinci Experience summer camp. Alexandra will attend Brown University in the fall.

MEstabrookMATTHEW ESTABROOK
He is the son of Kenneth and Wendy Estabrook. He is an AP student, a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a member of the National Honors Society, and is the recipient of the Boston College Book Award and the University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology. He has been the Editor-In-Chief of the FHS literary magazine GORP for the past year. Throughout high school, Matthew has been involved with the FHS music program and Theatre Company, receiving three Outstanding Musicianship Awards at the Maine State Jazz Festival, and three All-Festival Cast Awards at the regional and State One-Act Festivals. He has performed with the Maine All-State Choir and All-State Jazz Combo, and was selected for the 2015 All-Eastern Choir. Matthew will be attending the Five Year Dual-Degree Program between Tufts University and the New England Conservatory of Music in the fall, where he will study economics and jazz performance.

GFanGRACE FAN
She is the daughter of Titan and Christina Fan. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, the recipient of the Yale University Book Award and the MPA Principal’s Award, and has been recognized for excellence in history and English. She was the Executive Board Treasurer, the National Honor Society Chair of Community Service, as well as the president of Photography Club. Grace is also an avid musician and was principal flute for the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble and Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra for the past two years as well as a member of the Falmouth High School Chamber Singers for three years. She was an active member of Service Club, Environmental Action Committee, the Yearbook Committee, and the Falmouth Theatre Company. In her free time, Grace likes to play piano, volunteer, photograph, and maintain her blog, Faces of Falmouth High School. Grace will attend Williams College in the fall.

JGilmanJULIA GILMAN
She is the daughter of Susan and Tom Gilman. During her high school career, she has been recognized for excellence in math, science, history, English and French and is a member of the National Honor Society. Julia is editor of the 2014-15 yearbook and leader of the yearbook club. Julia has been a competitive figure skater with the North Atlantic Figure Skating Club for 13  years and has competed in four New England Regional Championships, under the direction of coach Lynda Hathaway. She enjoyed volunteering as a junior skating coach, and is now excited to have a student of her own. Julia is also an accomplished equestrian, riding and showing horses in various regional events. When not skating or riding, Julia enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, hiking, skiing, photography, painting, and baking. Julia will be attending Colorado College in the fall.

LambertSSCOTT LAMBERT
He amused himself as a young child by playing with ceiling fans, light switches and legos. These occupations have since coalesced into interests in theoretical physics, deep space exploration and aerospace engineering. The goal of enabling humans to explore interstellar space motivated him to take eight math courses (through linear algebra) during high school, four on his own without a teacher. He has also participated in FIRST Robotics and the Maine Science Olympiad competition, won a national aeronautics essay contest, published a research paper on proposed methods of interstellar flight, and interned at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He tutors in mathematics, science, and writing at the Falmouth High tutoring center. Scott also enjoys running, cross-country skiing, playing keyboard in Falmouth High’s band scene, and writing satire for the FHS newspaper, The Mast. He was a member of the varsity cross-country and outdoor track for four years, Falmouth’s varsity nordic ski team for three years, and was a team captain for the 2014 cross-country season. Scott will study engineering physics at Stanford University.

AMcGroryAIDAN MCGRORY
He is the son of Brian and Lori McGrory. He is class salutatorian, a National Merit Commended Student, Princeton Book Award recipient, AP Scholar with Honor and a National Honor Society member. He was selected as a MERITS summer intern in biology at USM. Aidan is a four-year varsity tennis player, team captain and was named All State First team in Singles in 2014. Additionally, he earned three varsity letters in soccer and was named to the All Academic Team. Aidan has served as a leader of Service Club, vice-president of Kids Helping Kids, student representative to Executive Board and is a member of Natural Helpers of Maine. He will attend Bowdoin College in the fall where he plans to study biology.

MNowakMEGAN NOWAK
She is the daughter of Kim Filippone and Ken Nowak. She is a graphic designer/web designer for The Mast and yearbook committee, and does occasional contract work for various local organizations. Megan loves the outdoors, and is an avid photographer, writer, biker, artist, and musician who idolizes Charlie Parker and studies jazz and concert saxophone. Megan will attend College of the Atlantic in the fall, where she plans to study fine art, graphic design, creative writing and botany.

MPierceMEG PIERCE
She is the daughter of Samuel and Teresa Pierce. She is as an AP Scholar with Honor, a member of the National Honor Society, the recipient of the Hobey Baker Character award, and has received high honors throughout high school. Over the past four year, Meg has been a part of varsity soccer, tennis, and varsity ice hockey. As a senior she was captain of both the tennis and ice hockey teams. She is a part of the Falmouth Theatre Company and participated in 11 shows during her four years. Meg was civics club treasurer, worked on the school newspaper, the Mast, and Habitat for Humanity in the greater Portland Area. During her summers, Meg worked at Fish Camp as a counselor in South Portland teaching kids about marine biology. Meg is attending Washington University in St. Louis in the fall.

SReedSAMUEL REED
He is the son of Rachel and David Reed. He is an AP scholar and a member of the National Honors Society. Sam was the co-captain of the Falmouth High School Speech and Debate Team in both his junior and senior years and was the 2014 State Champion in Congressional Debate. He has received numerous awards at other debate tournaments around the state, and he competed in the National Catholic Forensic League’s Grand National Speech and Debate Tournament in 2014. He has received a varsity letter in cross-country at Falmouth High School and also rows in Waynflete’s first varsity boys’ boat, having placed second at the 2015 Maine Youth Rowing Association winter indoor rowing regatta. He is a tutoring center volunteer, an avid skier, and an experienced hiker, being certified as a Junior Maine Guide after training at the University of Maine’s 4H Camp and Learning Center. Sam will attend Dartmouth College in the fall.

ORingOLIVIA RING
She is the daughter of Jeffrey Ring and Anne DiStefano. She is an AP scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Commended Scholar, and a recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and the Williams College Book Award. Olivia has been recognized for excellence in English, Spanish, music and science. Since freshman year, she has been a member of the cross-country, indoor and outdoor track teams, and is a recipient of varsity letters, All-Academic Team Awards, and the Coaches Award. She also participates in the Environmental Action Committee and the Gender Sexuality Alliance. Olivia takes music lessons and plays the guitar, piano, clarinet, ukulele, and mandolin. She loves photography, writing and performing poetry, her job at Subway and her three siblings. Olivia will attend Skidmore College in the fall, where she plans to major in molecular biology and neuroscience, and minor in Spanish and gender studies.

CTiwariCHARU TIWARI
She is the daughter of Sarita and Jyoti Tiwari. She is an AP Scholar and a member of the National Honors Society. She is a part of the Environmental Action Committee, Service Club and the Yearbook Club. Throughout the years Charu has been involved with cross-country, indoor track and girls’ tennis. She has also volunteered as an assistant children’s tennis coach and tutored at the school’s tutoring center. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, drawing, reading, photography, figure skating, practicing the piano, watching shows and movies, and reading about advancements in medicine. She will be attending the Ohio State University, where she plans to study biology.

ATuckerANNIE TUCKER
She is the daughter of Lisa Madden and David Tucker. She is an AP Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Bowdoin Book Award as well as the Society of Women in Engineering award. She twice competed in the Maine State Windstorm Challenge, designing a wind turbine. Her 3D-printer experiences include printing a spinning carousel and building a saltwater printer. She is a fully certified volunteer member of the National Ski Patrol at Saddleback Maine and recently received the Rookie of the Year award. She is a dedicated artist and her artwork depicting the tragedy and triumph of genocide was displayed at a United to End Genocide event. She is a member of the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, playing flute. She also plays guitar and loves cooking, traveling and mountain biking. In the fall, she will likely be majoring in international affairs, environmental science, or journalism in the honors program at Northeastern University.

IWolfeISABEL WOLFE
She is the daughter of Peter and Chris Wolfe. She is the class valedictorian and has been recognized for excellence in history, English, science, French, and math. She is a National Merit Scholar, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, she is a recipient of the Dartmouth Book Award and the RPI medal. As a sophomore, she was selected to represent Falmouth High School at the annual Maine Youth Leadership conference, returning the following year as a junior counselor. In addition to her academic pursuits, Isabel is a company member with Maine State Ballet, performing in more than 40 shows per year. She is also an editor of Falmouth High’s newspaper “The Mast” and a longtime math team member. Over the years, she has engaged in various types of community service, including tutoring, assistant teaching, and ballet outreach. Isabel will attend Yale University in the fall, where she plans to study neuroscience.

AWoodruffABIGAIL WOODRUFF
Woodruff is the daughter of Thomas Woodruff and Julie Mills. She is an AP Scholar, a recipient of the Mount Holyoke College Book Award, and has been recognized by the Women’s Literary Union Youth Council. Abigail is an active participant in the Environmental Action Committee, Service Club, Ocean Sciences Bowl, and Yearbook Committee at Falmouth High School. She has taken piano lessons at the Portland Conservatory of Music for ten years, and has taken ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance classes at Portland Ballet and Casco Bay Movers. Abigail will attend Northeastern University in the fall of 2015 with a major in biology.
