A pair of Brunswick men allegedly pointed a gun at two victims Sunday night, Brunswick police reported Monday.
According to Brunswick Police Commander Marc Hagan, police were called to the Cumberland Farms parking lot on Pleasant Street at 10:31 p.m. Sunday, June 7, to report that a gun was allegedly pointed at a male and female victim, both age 24, after an argument.
The victims said one of two males in a green Ford Expedition pointed the gun and allegedly threatened to kill them, according to police.
A short while later, Brunswick Police Sgt. Jonathan O’Connor located a vehicle matching a description provided to police — a green Ford Expedition — on Route 1 approaching Cook’s Corner.
O’Connor followed, but waited for backup until activating the lights on his cruiser near the intersection of Gurnet Road and Perryman Drive, said Hagan.
Rather than pull over immediately, Hagan said the vehicle turned onto Perryman Drive, traveling along the circle at the housing development there, before eventually stopping at a parking spot.
At that point, the men in the vehicle, who both live on Perryman Drive according to police, were taken into custody.
Police found a loaded .380 semiautomatic pistol on the floor of the vehicle, said Hagan.
The driver, Jesse L. Riggleman, 28, faces a number of charges, including criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and failing to stop for an officer.
Police believe the weapon was stolen out of Florida, and so Riggleman was charged with theft by receiving stolen property.
Riggleman is charged with criminal simulation because the serial number on the gun appeared intentionally damaged in an attempt to remove it, said Hagan.
A felon, Riggleman was also charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Riggleman was also charged with violating conditions of his release related to having his license revoked for being a habitual offender. Brunswick Police also charged him with operating a vehicle after his license was revoked.
Riggleman’s probation officer has also requested a probation hold.
The passenger in the vehicle, Michael W. Stevens, was also charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, in addition to unlawful possession of a scheduled drug after police found him in possession of suboxone, which is used to treat opiate addiction.
Stevens’ bail was set at $2,000. Riggleman was held without bail.
Police did not disclose whether it was Riggleman or Stevens who allegedly pointed the gun in the incident at Cumberland Farms.
“We’re still investigating the cause of the altercation,” said Hagan.
Both men were transported to Cumberland County Jail, and are scheduled to appear July 21 in Cumberland County Superior Court.
