ALFRED — Louise R. (Ferrara) Boldebook, 97, died June 6, 2015 surrounded by her family at her home in Alfred.
Her parents immigrated from northern Italy in 1905 and acquired a land grant in 1912 in Saskatchewan, Canada, where Louise was born on April 6, 1918. She came to the United States as a young girl with her family, settling in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Ermenigildo (James) Ferrara and Teresa (Guidici) Ferrara.
Louise attended Commerce High School in Springfield, Massachusetts, and met her husband-to-be, John Boldebook at a USO dance while he was in the Army, attending Indian motorcycle riding school as part of his military service.
Louise and John were married in Springfield in 1943 and moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where Louise worked as an office assistant and her husband worked as a dispatcher in the trucking business. Louise gave birth to four children in Memphis: John Gary, James Riley, Brenda Louise and David Wayne.
The family moved to Agawam, Massachusetts in 1956. Louise worked at various jobs, including The American Heart Association and an office position at Balise Chevrolet.
Louise and John moved to Maine in 1977, where Louise worked in a family-owned restaurant, and as office manager of CBC Marketing until her retirement in 2006.
After the death of her husband John in 1983, Louise traveled extensively, seeing the western United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, England, Germany, Spain and Italy, where she was able to visit the small hometown of her mother near Milan.
Louise took painting and language lessons, and enjoyed hobbies like decorating, sewing, knitting and cooking favorite family recipes.
She was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco, and the Chapel at the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Alfred, where she lived.
Louise is preceded in death by: four siblings, Edward Ferrara of Springfield, Massachusetts and Venice, Florida, Josephine (Ferrara) Loguidice of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Frances (Ferrara) Lavertue of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts and Sister Mary Assumpta (Anita Ferrara) of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy with a Motherhouse in Newfield, New Jersey.
She is survived by: four children, John, James, Brenda, and David; as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted by Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco, with visitation on Sunday, June 14 from 5-8 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held the following day at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Church on 178 Elm St., Biddeford, followed by a reception with location to be announced.
Burial will be private with family only at a date to be decided at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
